Stairway to WV

An interesting blog called Stairway to West Virginia was recently introduced to me by a friend. It is a good example of using a blog in a classroom. I learned a great deal about West Virginia as I went from post to post. The teacher, eltee, works very hard. S/he posts everything and maintains the blog. They use lots of good tech tools like teacher tube for videos and of course the regular tech suspects. It is a well crafted blog and class. The contents of the pages are rich, with good links to important information. This is a good example of the use of Multiple Intelligences at work and certainly Differentiated Instruction. The scholars in this class are definitely producers. The PowerPoint on stereotypes, the TeacherTube on Battle of Blair Mountain, and others provided me with a great glimpse about these scholars as well as hearing them.

This is certainly not who these scholars are and they prove it with their well crafted webpages, powerpoints, teachertube projects. I hope they had as much fun working on the projects on this blog as I had in spending time at Logan High School, in West Virginia from my easy chair is NYC. This blog demonstrates how well a blog can be used in a school. It is a worthy blog stop for all teachers and especially those interested in using a blog in their classroom.

I'm interested in how the blog can be used in the classroom, much as me and others used webpages, just a few years ago. I imagine that each scholar would have hir own blog and the teacher would have a blog with the assignments and links to hir scholars' blogs. Low maintenance on one hand, but high on the other as we wish to maintain a high level of quality. This blog in WV is fun, well done, and worth a visit.

Thank you, scholars of Logan High and eltee, whoever you may be. And yes, Ashley and Ashley, I did learn lots from you.
